"ABCs of Internet Therapy"

I came across this article about e-therapy and decided to post it. It is full of useful information. Sure, there are other ways to determine whether or not e-therapy is for you, but this is one way to look at it.

Guidelines for Online Counseling

Conduct for online therapy is such a concern that a few associations have actually created codes of conduct for online services. The International Society for Mental Health Online (ISMHO) was created for the sole purpose to monitor and suggest guidelines for the conduct of online therapy. Another such association is Health on the Net (HON). They have similar guidelines and information on their websites.

eTherapy?

eTherapy is a relatively new phenomenon in which mental health services are offered online. This provides for the utmost private and convenient therapy. However, at the same time, it limits the potential benefits of therapy in that there is a greater chance for miscommunication due to the lack of verbal communication. Also, non-verbal behavior is next to impossible to assess behind a monitor. Nevertheless, the eTherapy phenomenon is catching on rather quickly, and this here blog is designed to document its rise (or fall?) in our ever-privatizing and convenience-obsessed society.
